Total hip replacement surgery is an extremely popular surgery in the United States. It is not without issues, however. Over time, hip implants begin to degrade the surrounding bone and cause resorption in a process known as osteolysis. To prevent the integrity of the entire bone from being compromised, revision surgery is performed in which the surgeon inserts a tool through a screw hole made for the hip replacement surgery and removes the degraded bone. The screw hole insertion limits the surgeon’s movement. Additionally, the operating site is difficult to visualize because of the minimally-invasive nature of the surgery and requires the use of fluoroscopy to update the surgeon on the progress of the surgery. This results in less than optimal coverage of the lesion. The manipulator is intended to make hip revision surgery more efficacious by allowing greater coverage of the lesion.

The Role of Force Feedback in Surgery: Analysis of Blunt Dissection
Force feedback is widely assumed to enhance performance in robotic surgery, but its benefits have not yet been systematically assessed. In this study we examine the effects of force feedback on a blunt dissection task. Subjects used a telerobotic system to expose an artery in a synthetic model while viewing the operative site with a video laparoscope. Performance was compared between force feed...
متن کاملA Case Report of Eccrine Hidrocystoma
Background: Hidrocystoma are benign adnexal cystic lesion originating from sweat glands (eccrine or apocrine) which are often observed in the head and neck. Periocular hidrocystomas are relatively uncommon which can occur as single or multiple lesions. There is no gender or race predisposition for the prevalence of hydrocystoma. Spontaneous resolution is rare, especially in large cysts, and def...
متن کاملCo-Incidence of Acute Appendicitis and Appendiceal Transection after Blunt Abdominal Trauma: A Case Report
A 13-year-old boy with a history of bicycle handlebar injury to the left side of his abdomen was brought to the Emergency Department of our center. On admission, his vital signs were stable and abdominal examination revealed ecchymosis and tenderness of the injured areas. Mild to moderate free fluid and two small foci of free air in the anterior aspect of the abdomen, in favor of pneumoperitone...
متن کاملA New Approach to Establish Tactility in Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Development, Design, and First Evaluation of a Haptic-Tactile Feedback System for Improved Localization of Arteries During Surgery such as Closed-Chest Revascularization
In conventional minimally invasive robotic surgery (MIRS) the physician is no longer in direct mechanical contact with the patient and the surgical instruments. The establishment of kinesthetic impressions shows promising results technically but tactile feedback is still a problem. Various attempts with full remote perception of tactile impressions did not prevail for a number of reasons. Above...
متن کاملAxillary Artery Injury Associated with Proximal Humerus Fracture: A Report of 6 Cases
Proximal humerus fractures are common, but associated injury of the axillary artery is uncommon. The majority of published blunt traumatic axillary artery injuries are associated with anterior glenohumeral dislocation; a few are associated with isolated proximal humerus fractures or fracture-dislocation. Experience within our institution demonstrates that axillary artery injury is often unreco...
